Oma’s Passion and Mr. Biggles
Mr. Biggles was fairly absent-minded and was always having unfortunate accidents requiring him to almost continually be covered in bandages. He was also a golden brown color, about one foot tall and had the softest fur I had ever felt against my face.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to be a nurse and Mr. Biggles was my teddy bear and first patient. You know, Mr. Biggles never once complained, even though I was constantly adding and removing bandages from him. This meant he did lose a bit of fur in the process, which of course needed more bandages. I always told him the bald spots gave him character!
When it came time for college, the choice of nursing as my major was a predictable conclusion, I knew I wanted to learn to how to help people lead healthy, happy lives (preferably without bald spots). Rheumatology and Autoimmune diseases became my specialty and today I am an infusion nurse, a nurse who administers extremely potent drugs intravenously.
My patients suffer a great deal from their ailments as well as from all of those aches, pains and stresses that we all deal with in our everyday normal lives. The doctors that I work with are the best in their field, but I always wondered if there was something more that could be done to ease my patient’s pain and normalize their lives.
One day I injured my shoulder playing backyard badminton with my son. Rather than channel my inner Venus Williams, I should have accepted the lost point because even though that return may have been highlight-reel quality (maybe the bloopers version according to my son), I could not lift my arm for a week after. I had been reading about the advances in CBD research and out of desperation, I tried a CBD oil product to help heal my ailing shoulder. (Go ahead; just try to put a shirt on using one arm. I am sure it was a comical sight, but I certainly did not want to suffer long enough to get good at it.) The CBD oil was miraculous; I could feel the difference very quickly.
Soon I was back on the court and my family was again feeling the wrath of my badminton dominance! I loved the CBD and became a true believer; the only problem was that I hated the product. It was greasy and had a “mediciney” smell.
One day I was telling my daughter Beth about my shoulder and CBD. She had been making wonderful skin salves and lip balms with scented essential oils for years and suggested that if I worked out the doses, together we could make healing products that people actually enjoy using. We created some amazing products that our customers love.
Oh, and by the way, “Oma” is German for “Grammy” and Beth is the mother of my first grandson. We at Oma’s Organics hope you love using our products as much as we love making them for you!
